MKT Railroad Depot & Museum – Our Host

Our La Grange RailCam is hosted by the MKT Railroad Depot & Museum, located inside La Grange's historic Missouri-Kansas-Texas "Katy" passenger depot. The original M-K-T depot was built in 1887, but was destroyed by fire in 1897. A replacement depot was completed in 1898 and remains at the site today. The restored depot preserves La Grange's railroad heritage with historic railroad exhibits, model trains, and railroad equipment including two M-K-T cabooses.

La Grange, TX

La Grange has a long connection with the railroad. The community's first railroad connection arrived in 1880, followed by the M-K-T line from the north in 1887. The arrival of the Katy opened new connections for local farmers, businesses, and travelers, helping La Grange grow as an important transportation point in Fayette County. Today, the former Katy route continues to serve the community as part of Union Pacific's Smithville Subdivision, while the restored M-K-T depot provides a look back at the railroad's important role in La Grange's history.
