Our Rockdale RailCam is hosted by the Rockdale I&GN Depot Museum, a beautifully
restored 1906 International & Great Northern passenger depot in downtown
Rockdale. The depot was constructed as Rockdale grew into an important railroad
community and shipping point for the surrounding agricultural region.
Today, the museum preserves Rockdale's railroad heritage with historic railroad
artifacts, an original station agent's desk, telegraph desk and ticket office,
along with a Missouri Pacific dining car and caboose displayed on the property.
The Rockdale Historical Society purchased the depot in 1999 and completed its
restoration in 2008.

Rockdale was established as a railroad town in the 1870s when the International & Great Northern Railroad extended its line westward from Hearne toward Austin. The Hearne-to-Rockdale portion was completed in 1874, with the line reaching Austin in 1876. Railroads played a major role in the growth of Rockdale, providing local farmers and businesses with access to markets throughout Texas. The community later became home to additional rail operations, including the San Antonio & Aransas Pass and the Rockdale, Sandow & Southern.
